Regarding the article ‘Saving St Michael’s Church Hall’ published September 2017:
St Michael’s wishes to look forward positively to a new project for the Church Hall, nevertheless a number of comments were made in the above named article that require correction and clarification.
The BCA takes no view on proposals for St Michael’s Church Hall and that the opinions expressed in the article where those of the author/Church Hall Action Group only. In addition, contrary to the comments in the article, it is important to note:
– The proposed dwelling on the site was not primarily made of glass: it used materials similar to those of neighbouring properties.
– The proposal was dismissed by the National Planning Inspectorate (following an appeal by St Michael’s church against non-determination by Richmond planners) and not by LBRuT, the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames
– The National Planning Inspector found, nonetheless, that the proposed church hall facilities for existing users were being adequately ‘re-provided’ and offered improved accommodation
These details are to be found in the Inspector’s report which can be read about on Richmond’s planning portal.
