Midweek Masses
: Wednesday and Saturday Mass are broadcast live at the usual times, but also recorded for later viewing. Check the website for how to join in.

Sunday Worship: From this Sunday we have restored the 8am Book of Common Prayer Mass which is broadcast live at that time. The main Sung Mass appears on the website at the usual time of 10am.

HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY LOWELL! Lowell Herbert is a mainstay of the choir having joined in the mid-nineties, not only as a pitchperfect alto, but also an invaluable support for Martin in keeping the many files containing our music ready for use and sorted efficiently. She also teaches music at St Michael’s Montessori nursery school and is a super person. We wish Lowell all the best!

ROGATION SUNDAY. Today is Rogation Sunday, traditionally the day when the crops growing were blessed and when church congregations go on procession around the parish boundaries. This afternoon, Fr Stephen will walk the parish 18 boundary to pray for the different parts of our parish and ask for God’s blessing upon at this time. You may see small labels with prayers and scripture verses left in various places as a sign of this.

ASCENSION DAY Thursday 21st May – Sung Mass 8pm. The feast of the Ascension begins to draw the Easter season to a close as the Risen Lord returns to heaven and we prepare to receive the gift of the promised Holy Spirit afresh at Pentecost.
• It is our Christian duty to try to mark Ascension Day, even at this strange time. There are two services you can take part in – Morning Prayer at 9am and a Sung Mass at 8pm.
• Between Ascension and Prayer the Church keeps a Novena of Prayer. This is 9 days of special focused prayer with a particular intention. This year we will be praying for our recovery from the corona virus pandemic and those who are sick or have died and medical and care staff.
• You will receive a pack with prayer resources and materials for the Ascension-Pentecost season early next week. More information about this soon!

BINGO NIGHT IN, Thursday 28th May, 6.30-7.30pm. Virtual Bingo for all the family via Zoom. To reserve a place or for more information please contact the Parish Office. Details, bingo cards and a Zoom link will be sent out during the week of 25th May. Donation min £10 per family.

PILGRIMAGE TO ROME 2021. This has been rearranged for Thursday 8th – Tuesday 13th April 2021. Please let us know if you are intending to come and would like to put your name down, provisionally.

PARISH OFFICE. During this time of reduced activity, the Parish Office will be open for half its usual hours. To ensure consistent cover a few hours will be covered each day Monday to Thursday, so please do keep using the office email as a contact point.

CHORAL SCHOLARSHIPS. Although we do not know when public worship will begin again, this is still the right time to start publicising our 2020/21 Choral Scholarship programme for young singers, using the fund given last year to begin the scheme. Please do pass on to anyone you think might be interested.  Further details can be found at:

CALLING ALL COOKS. A few people have suggested putting together a Parish Cookbook with your favourite recipes and now seems like the right time! Here’s what we are looking for:
* Recipes with a list of ingredients and a short and clear method.
* A broad spread from savoury to sweet and baking, for adults and children.
* Recipes can be familiar favourites but with your own title (e.g. Lizzie’s Shepherd’s Pie) or a family recipe with a personal twist.  If you have a personal story to add to it even better.
* No food pics (very hard to look good!) but may ask for a pic of you doing food prep to illustrate and bring to life.
* Up to 3 recipes per person.

The Parish Office will edit and have it professionally printed. The Cookbook will be sold as a unique gift to raise parish funds and will retail at something like £15 or £20. In due course we will ask for advance orders to ensure an adequate print run.

EASYFUNDRAISING. During this challenging time many of us are buying more online than before and, as we are unable to fundraise in person at present, we have registered St Michael’s with easyfundraising. This allows you to raise free donations for St Michael’s when you shop online. Easyfundraising has over 4,000 shops and sites which will donate to us at no extra cost to you, including lots of big name retailers eg John Lewis, M&S. All you have to do is sign up to support us using the link below. We really need all the help we can get at the moment and any funds we raise will make a big difference, so we would really appreciate it if you could take a moment to sign up and support us

PASTORAL CARE. If you know of anyone who needs help, please do not hesitate to get in touch. St Michael’s works together with all other Barnes-based organisations (e.g. BCA, Barnes Workhouse, FiSH) to make sure that everyone is well-supported. Let the clergy know if we can help in any way.

FOODBANK. Donations can be dropped off at the Castelnau Centre 9.15am-11.15am on Friday mornings or at the OSO between 10am and 12 noon Monday to Saturday. The OSO is also preparing home-delivery meals for local residents in economic need, the elderly, isolated, and vulnerable, as well as key workers. Meals are available on an ‘ability to pay’ basis, free to those in need. You can also donate money by following the link here.
