To our dear Friends at St Michael’s
I know I promised on Sunday to refrain from making any more speeches of thanks, but having now opened the envelopes and seen the incredibly generous presents, including the fantastic collection of photographs, I simply had to write.
As I feel sure you could tell, Penny and I were extremely touched by all the kind words which have been spoken about my nine years as your Director of Music, and we would like to thank everyone who has made the last few weeks so special, culminating in two glorious services last Sunday. The choir was on terrific form, not least when directed by Laurence Williams, and it was thrillingly accompanied by Philip Berg. What a bonus also to have the solos in Stanford in G sung so beautifully by Sheila and Laurence.
The reception in the Community Centre on Sunday morning was an occasion we will never forget, while Lizzie’s phenomenal organist and organ console was literally the ‘icing on the (delicious) cake’!
Among the letters I have received was one from Bishop Christopher, who was very complimentary about the worship at St Michael’s. Worshipping here has made a deep impression on Penny and me, and, while I will avoid treading on Laurence’s toes, we will certainly return from time to time to a very special House of the Lord.
You have also been so welcoming to members of our family, several of whom have greatly enjoyed taking part in services and concerts.
With renewed thanks from us all, and with every good wish,
